What type of Window Treatments Help With Privacy the Most?
Your home is your sanctuary, and if you’re like most homeowners, finding window treatments in Las Vegas that offer privacy and sound blocking to maintain your castle is a top consideration. Any window covering is more effective than an uncovered window. However there are some window treatments that give you more privacy than others, particularly on specialty windows.
Improving Privacy on Hard to Cover Windows
Most large, square windows you have are a snap to cover with just about any window treatment such as blinds, shades, or shutters in Las Vegas.
However, there are some situations when you need a particular type of window treatment to achieve the level of privacy you need. These include:
-
Windows in the bathroom where water and humidity might ruin fabric window treatments.
-
Entryway sidelights that are tall and skinny on which window treatments can be knocked around when the door opens or shuts.
-
Non-square windows like arches, round windows, bow windows, etc., where typical store-bought blinds and curtains can’t cover your window without covering up the window’s unique shape.
-
Big windows that can be hard to reach like second-story foyer windows.
In these instances, you need window treatments that go above and beyond to provide privacy to your space.
As a plus, look for window treatments that offer good sound control to keep random noise outside and keep inside noise inside.
The Window Treatments That Give You The Most Privacy
The best window treatments for privacy that we recommend are Polywood® plantation shutters. Plantation shutters are able to be shut completely, for when total privacy and sound control is your goal. To let light in and see outdoors, just tilt the louvers. For high windows, you can always position the louvers at an angle to let light in while still maintaining privacy.
Plantation shutters are also perfect for specialty-shaped windows because they can be customized to fit any shape or size. And since Polywood shutters are waterproof, they’re perfect for bathrooms.
Another window treatment that helps with privacy is roller shades. Roller shades take up minimal space at the top of the window, but are easy to pull down to prevent any views from outside your home. While they can’t be cut to fit unique window shapes, you can find roller shapes in moisture-resistant material for areas like your bathrooms.
Window Treatments that Don’t Make the Cut for Privacy
While any window treatment offers a basic level of privacy, there are two that might not get the job done. The first is sheer curtains. Sheer curtains were popular years ago and can add an airy feeling to a room. Yet they’re fairly translucent and can be seen through fairly easily, especially when it’s dark out.
Another window treatment we don’t recommend for privacy are cheap or heavy blinds, which can break and/or get stuck at a certain angle. If you can’t close the blinds all the way because of breakage, then they’re not doing you any favors for privacy.
